    Begins Tuesday, April 6 | Learn Conversational Spanish (Deadline to sign-up is April 2)

     

    In conjunction with Penn State Harrisburg Office of Continuing Education,
    the RMC brings you conversational Spanish.

    Taught by Jeff Thoms and designed for beginner learners, this 10-week course is perfect for individuals who have no prior Spanish speaking knowledge. With two sessions per week, virtual classes will consist of interactive learning, situational role-plays, and practical business, workforce, and recycling industry conversation.

    Classes meet virtually Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

    Jeff Thoms

     

    Jeff Thoms graduated in 1995 from Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, PA with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a minor in Classical Languages. It was in graduate school that Thoms became fluent in Spanish, taking classes, visiting various places in Latin America on vacation and on mission trips, and attending an immersion program in Douglaston, Queens, NY.

    In 2000 Thoms graduated from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH with a Master of Arts in Theology, and a Master of Divinity. Thoms has worked as a freelance, Spanish interpreter locally for a number of years, assisting in legal, medical, social work, and corporate meetings.
    Thoms enjoys teaching Conversational Spanish in a relaxed, laid-back setting.

    Industry expert, Sean De Vries, will provide in-depth information about the revised R2 Standard (R2v3) and its application.

    Sean De Vries


    Sean De Vries was appointed by SERI ( the Sustainable Electronics Recycling International) to the position of R2 Director in October, 2018. Among his responsibilities, Sean works with the R2 Technical Advisory Committee and leads the R2 Standard development process. He also provides guidance for the application and implementation of the standard and educate various stakeholder groups. Sean brings considerable experience in standards development and oversight for the electronics reuse and recycling industry.

    Prior to joining SERI, Sean was the Director of the Recycler Qualification Office (RQO), an organization established to audit and approve reuse and recycling organizations prior to use under the industry-led end-of-life electronics recycling programs across Canada. He also led the development process for the Electronics Reuse and Refurbishing Program (ERRP) and the Recycler Qualification Program (RQP). Sean was also active in the development and implementation of the provincial electronics stewardship programs and served as the inaugural Chair of the Board of Directors for the four not-for-profit stewardship organizations. Sean holds a diploma in Environmental Engineering Technology from Georgian College, Barrie, Ontario.
